As part of its prevention efforts, funded through a Los Angeles County Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Services (AODPS) contract, NCADD South Bay is asking responsible South Bay adults to pledge to protect our youth from the extensive damages and risks associated with under age drinking.
Youth who begin drinking under the legal age of 21 suffer an increased risk of developing alcohol related problems in their lives. In addition, drinking can hinder their fragile and critical developmental process leading to impaired emotional control, poor decision making skills and maladaptive social skills. If this were not enough, research has shown that adolescent binge drinking leads to permanent damage to sections of the brain that will directly affect their ability to function in the arenas of higher education and career building.
You can do your part for both your own children and the children of your community. Your pledge not only holds you accountable to honor your word, but can also encourage other parents to step forward and give their own. You need to know that you are not alone and so do the other healthy adults in your neighborhood. Stand up and make your voice heard. Protect our youth from one of the most insidious and dangerous risks they will be exposed to.
If you would like more information on the dangers of underage drinking or on what you can do to help combat this equal opportunity destroyer please contact NCADD South Bay at (310) 328-1460.
The pledge form, which can be mailed, faxed or sent by email, is available to print as a PDF file by clicking on the scroll icon at the right. Click "Download file" to download a document file to fill out and email.
